Giganti, rođeni od Tere (znana kao Gaja) i Urana, bili su nasilni i nereligiozni ljudi, koji nisu verovali u božanstva, zato što su smatrali da i sami imaju božansku suštinu.
Giganti su bili planinski ljudi (Uran je sinonim za planinu, ili za planinskog čoveka).
U njihovom ratu protiv Zevsa, izgradili su planine iznad planina da bi došli do Olimpa, palate bogova. Veliki Atlas je zadrhtao kada su napali i, iako su se bogovi, vođeni Zevsom, obrušili na Gigante, bacajući munje, ipak nisu bili sposobni da ih savladaju, i čak je i Herkul morao da se umeša da bi ih dobili.
